Privately owned Liquid Edge has been developing RoboForge for the past three years out of their Herne Bay offices and employ a staff of up to 10 people. Mike Ward of Liquid Edge envisages tournaments with prize money up for grabs and a full ranking system, resulting in a “professional sport circuit”.
Typically, this involves positioning the limbs to recoil and strike, taking a “snapshot” of each, then letting the simulation engine fill in the rest.
Players can train the machine to perform an unlimited number of 3D combat moves. Once built, the next step is training the robot to use its arsenal of destructive tools. Players have a multitude of options at their disposal to construct their robot, including sensors, weapons, shields and controllers.
The premise of the game is simple: design and build your own virtual robot, then let it loose against others via the internet in a battle to the death. Auckland-based game developer Liquid Edge has designed RoboForge to satisfy the bloodlust of budding robot enthusiasts.
